Business Challenge
The client faced a critical business risk when Google announced the retirement of the API powering its browser extension. The company had only six months to migrate to Chrome's new Manifest V3 framework before enforcement. Failure to comply would result in Chrome compatibility issues, potential Chrome Web Store removal, and disruption for more than 900,000 active users.
The challenge was not only technical. The browser extension represented the company's primary revenue stream, making business continuity a top priority. During our ongoing maintenance work, devPulse also identified a strategic growth opportunity. While the client provided browser-level protection, users increasingly required protection across all applications and devices. Expanding into system-level filtering and parental controls presented an opportunity to enter the growing family safety software market and create new premium offerings.
The client needed a partner capable of simultaneously protecting its existing business while building the foundation for future growth.

The Solution
We approached the technical execution of the platform modernization by combining browser extension migration, system-level protection development, and delivery automation into a unified engineering effort.

The Result
The project delivered full business continuity while enabling new product-driven growth. DevPulse successfully modernized the platform without disrupting 900,000 users, completed the Chrome Manifest V3 migration ahead of schedule, and eliminated the risk of Web Store delisting.
At the same time, the introduction of system-level protection unlocked a new premium revenue stream, while automation significantly accelerated release cycles and improved overall product stability through extensive test coverage and reduced production risk.

Technical Challenges
Racing Against Google's Deadline
With only six months before Chrome enforcement, the migration needed to be completed without delaying ongoing product development and feature releases. Our team executed the platform rewrite in parallel with active roadmap initiatives, ensuring continuous delivery throughout the transition.
Security & Privacy Requirements
Operating at the system level introduced elevated security requirements. We implemented a zero-knowledge architecture where browsing activity never leaves the user's device and leveraged operating system security mechanisms to isolate critical components.
Performance at Scale
The platform processes millions of filtering decisions every day across hundreds of thousands of users. We optimized filtering logic and rule matching algorithms to achieve sub-5ms decision times while minimizing CPU and memory consumption.
Supporting Multiple Operating Systems
Developing native filtering drivers for both Windows and macOS required deep expertise in two fundamentally different operating system architectures. We solved this challenge by creating a shared filtering engine while preserving native performance on each platform.
Apple Notarization & Platform Compliance
macOS kernel-level functionality requires strict adherence to Apple's security and notarization guidelines. Our engineers successfully navigated the approval process and achieved platform compliance without impacting project timelines.
Value Delivered by devPulse
The client avoided Chrome Web Store delisting and maintained uninterrupted service for more than 900,000 users.
New parental control capabilities enabled entry into the family safety software segment and supported premium pricing strategies.
